NFL Draft Preview for 2009: Mark Sanchez

If there was a salary cap on NFL rookies already in place, it would be interesting to see if Mark Sanchez would have declared for the 2009 United States of America nfl draft on January 16th, 2009. With the top underclassmen quarterbacks returning to college for the 2009-2010 NCAA Football Season (Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow, and Sam Bradford), Sanchez found himself in position to be the number two quarterback prospect behind Georgia’s Mark Stafford in the 2009 nfl draft and jumped on the opportunity.

nfl draft preview for 2009- QB Mark Sachez’s Stats

After spending much of 2006 in the news for allegations of sexual assault that were ultimately dropped, Mark Sanchez started in several games in place of an injured John David Booty in the 2007-08 season. In those games he was 69-114 for 695 yards, 7 TDs, 5 INTs, and a 123.22 Quarterback rating. Mark Sanchez was the starting quarterback for the USC Trojans for all 13 games in the 2008-09 season leading the team to a 12-1 overall record, No. 2 ranking in the Coaches Poll, and No. 3 ranking in the AP. For the season, he was 241-366 for 3207 yards, 34 TD’s, 10 INT’s, and a quarterback rating of 164.64. Sanchez finished the season with one of his best games of the year in the 2009 Rose Bowl passing for 413 yards and earning the Offensive MVP Award for the game.

NFL Draft Preview for 2009- – QB Mark Sanchez Scouting Report

Mark Sanchez Pros

Mark Sanchez enters the 2009 nfl draft with the size and athleticism desired for an nfl quarterback at 6′3″ and 225lbs and a 4.88 40 at the 2009 NFL Combine. He is assessed as having outstanding mechanics and footwork and nothing but accolades arise when discussing his leadership capability.

Mark Sanchez Cons

If money wasn’t part of the equation, we probably wouldn’t see Sanchez go pro in the 2009 NFL draft. With only one year under his belt as a starter, the jury is still out on how good he will be over the long haul when dealing with adversity and a higher level of competition.

Mark Sanchez Overall

Enough teams need a good play caller this season that Mark Sanchez will likely go in the early to mid first round in the 2009 NFL draft. The San Francisco 49ers just edge out the Jets in United States of Americamock drafts on the Internet as far as the top two teams thought to be seeking Sanchez. The Niners have the 10th pick in the first round and the Jets the 17th. The Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions are also potential teams that will be looking at a quarterback in the 2009 NFL draft who could take Mark Sanchez with their first round pick.
