There is nfl rumor that the Jim Zorn era may be down to its final hours in Washington.
ESPN reported that the Redskins are likely to fire Zorn as head coach by Monday, while Fox Sports reported it will likely happen within 48 hours. The 4-11 Redskins are in San Diego for their season finale on Sunday.
Zorn has gone 12-19 in two seasons as head coach in Washington. But this season has been a struggle, and he was stripped of play-calling duties in October when the team brought in Sherman Lewis out of retirement.
The Redskins hired Bruce Allen as the team’s new GM last month, on the same day that former personnel guru Vinny Cerrato resigned.
Former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan has been prominently mentioned as a possible replacement for Zorn.
On Friday, Zorn told the Washington Post he was looking forward to a “full offseason schedule”:
“We’re going to take a little time off. Obviously, there’s going to be some sort of state of the union. But I’m under contract. It’s my job. It’s what I charge myself with.”
