NFL news that Ravens get in AFC playoffs, Cowboys win NFC East title

The Baltimore Ravens have gotten into the AFC playoffs, and the Dallas Cowboys have won the NFC East title and secured a first-round playoff game at home.

The Ravens won Sunday afternoon at Oakland, 21-13, and will play a first-round playoff game at New England next weekend.

It’s still not certain if the Ravens will be the fifth or sixth playoff seed in the AFC. That depends on the outcome of the New York Jets’ game Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals at Giants Stadium. The Jets need to win the game to get into the playoffs as the fifth seed, which would put the Ravens at sixth.

A Jets’ loss would make the Ravens the fifth seed and get the Houston Texans into the playoffs as the AFC’s sixth seed. But either way, the Ravens would play the Patriots. The Patriots and Bengals still are vying for the third seed. A Bengals’ win over the Jets would make them the third seed and push the Patriots to fourth. A Bengals’ loss to the Jets would make the Patriots the third seed.

The Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-0, on Sunday in Arlington, Tex.

That gave the Cowboys the division title and made them the third seed in the NFC playoffs. It gave the second seed, and a first-round playoff bye, to the Minnesota Vikings. The Eagles would have secured the division crown and the No. 2 seed with a triumph over the Cowboys.

The Cowboys will host the Eagles next weekend in a first-round playoff game. The other first-round NFC playoff game also will be a rematch of a game Sunday at the same site, with the fourth-seeded Arizona Cardinals hosting the fifth-seeded Green Bay Packers. The Packers won Sunday at Arizona, 33-7.
